What Industry Certifications Your Chosen Body Shop Should Have?

Oct 09, 2019

You Should Have a Certified and Reputable Auto Body Shop

Whether the auto body shop you choose is your personal connection or a recommendation from your insurance provider, you will want to make sure that the shop is properly equipped with the right industry certifications.

There are a few different certifications your auto body shop of choice may have:

I-CAR Gold Class Certification

The I-CAR Gold Class certification is a facility certification administered by I-CAR, a not-for-profit international training organization dedicated to improving auto body shop collision repair. The Gold Class Certification is the highest honor. This certification means that the shop is among the best of the best. Gold Class certified facilities employ technicians who specialize in different areas like structural and non-structural repair, refinishing, welding, appraisal and more. The industry-recognized Platinum Certification designation is given to collision repair professionals who achieve and maintain high levels of role-relevant training that contributes to complete, safe and quality repairs. These certifications are considered the highest standard in the auto body industry and are required by most insurance companies to be considered for their preferred auto body shop list.

ASE Certification

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) tests and certifies individual technicians who meet certain criteria. An ASE certified tech must have at least two years of professional work experience and be able to pass at least one test encompassing their trade. ASE tests both mechanical and cosmetic certifications, so that a tech can be certified in auto body painting, dent repair and various other categories.

Vehicle Manufacturer Certifications

Most of the major car manufacturers such as GM, KIA, Audi, Nissan and more offer certifications for auto body repair centers to show that the shop is certified to work on those brands of cars.

Why Are Certifications Important?

Certifications are important to ensure the facility and technicians have the training and equipment necessary to properly return your vehicle to pre-accident condition.
